Our Founder

Founder, Rebecca Francis Jones lives by these words everyday.  This internal belief drew her to serve in majority-minority spaces for the entirety of her career in education. She started her teaching career in Oakland, California where she was faced with the harsh realities of the inequities in education and forced her to reflect upon her own childhood experience.

“My mom transferred us out of our neighborhood school to go to a higher performing school in a more affluent area.  We drove long distances every day to leave our community in search of better opportunities…but why wasn’t that opportunity in our neighborhood? We were just as deserving of a high quality education.”  

Rebecca eventually expanded upon her creed to be the person she needed when she was younger and is now, with the Board of Directors, a passionate staff, and an invested community, creating an educational space she wishes she had had, right in the middle of a neighborhood who needs the option and opportunity.
